Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach is one of the most iconic views in all of San Diego. Its vantage point back to the beach, and the pier could easily be on the list of the most photographed areas. So when Oscar approached me to photograph his proposal, I knew I had to make it something unique and special. My favorite photo is just the view from the moment he got down on one knee with the great expanse of the ocean behind the couple.
The 2021 baseball season is here. The blog has been lacking again, so it’s time to start this back up once again. Here’s a look at some of my photos of the Padres from the Opening Weekend.
This week we look back to a year ago and a gallery of photos that I never posted. During the baseball offseason, Petco Park is converted into a in a dirt track for Supercross and a few monster truck events. I’ve shot several racing events before, including the Indy 500, some short track NASCAR and a few rally races, but these dirt bikes up close were something much more impressive than I expected. They were much louder too. Overall it was a great experience, I always love the challenge of photographing something new and meeting some photographers that cover another sport. I can’t wait for the racing to return to Petco, but I’m sure our grounds crew can.
COVID-19 restrictions limited almost all live performances around the country in 2020 and now in 2021. The Padres hosted a drive-in version of a concert for Switchfoot, but over the weekend another new concept was used, a Live-Stream. The band performed its first set on the Sycuan Stage at Gallagher Square, then moved to the field to perform an acoustic set and then back out to the stage to play after the sun had set. This is that new normal that we are living through at the moment, and I can’t wait to see another live show in person.
I was just reminded that a year ago I visited the San Diego Padres Dominican Academy while visiting the country to capture Fernando Tatis Jr.s’s offseason workout following his rookie season. Interesting how much can change in a year, but being able to visit a country that I had never been to before and seeing prospects in the Padres farm system many for the first time was an experience that I’ll remember fondly. The Academy is tucked into almost the middle of nowhere, you follow a series of backroads and seemingly forage through the jungle and then you just drive into this oasis of baseball.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated my blog because of a new job out on the West Coast. Back in March, I started a job with the San Diego Padres as their team photographer. It was a great new beginning coming off of another great experience with the Boston Red Sox and working with their creative team, specifically their Manager of Photography, Billie Weiss. But a new team here in San Diego, and a fun first year were definitely the highlight of 2019. So to start back up this blog again, here’s my favorite photos from the 2019 season.
The baseball season was over, the Red Sox won the World Series. All I had known for the past for nearly 8 months was baseball every day of the week. I wanted to get away, take some time to unwind and get away. The first thing that came to mind was inspiration from the book ‘The Patagonian Express’ which chronicled the author’s trip from Boston to the mountain in Argentina. As much as I would have loved to make the same trek, I didn’t think I had the time to. So, next best option, where could I travel in the United States on Amtrak? Looking at the routes, Montana was a part of the country I had never visited before and Glacier National Park seemed like a destination that checked all the boxes I wanted to fulfill. So after. few days on the train I made it to Essex, Montana. Visited the historic Issac Walton Inn and then made my way to Whitefish and West Glacier. A few days of snowboarding and hiking in the National Park were amazing. Already thinking about when I can go back.
Starting in 2019, I decided to have one goal. I want to hike all 48 4,000 footers in New Hampshire. I started last winter, but with the Red Sox season I was pretty much preoccupied for most of the Summer and the Fall. A setback of a broken foot in June, also hampered when I planned on going across the Presidential Range during the All-Star break. But, back to 2019. The first week, I decided to head back up to New Hampshire to get my first hike completed. Eight miles later, I hiked Mt. Willey, Mt. Field and Mt. Tom. Checked 3 4,000 footers off in one day. It was only the beginning. I’ll try to get as many as I can done this winter, but it takes the rest of the year, I think I’ll be alright.
